Which mesh of hay net to choose?

The mesh sets the speed at which your horse takes its hay: the smaller it is, the longer the meal lasts. What the studies say.

Our meshes

  • 38 mm: the most marked slowing, for greedy eaters.
  • 45 mm: versatile, a good balance between slow feeding and comfort.
  • 60 mm: a more comfortable bite, a good transition.
  • 100 mm: limits waste without slowing too much.
  • Double mesh: two meshes in one, to move gradually from slow intake to freer intake.

The colours available for each mesh are shown in the table on the page custom-made.

Our advice

  • A greedy horse: 38 or 45 mm.
  • A calm horse, or to limit waste: 60 or 100 mm.
  • A horse that is just starting out: begin with a wider mesh, then tighten.
  • Watch the first few days, and switch to a wider mesh if your horse gets worked up.

A hay net does not replace the ration. Do not reduce the amount of hay you give without the advice of your vet or an equine nutritionist.
